ARFID

Avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) is when a person has intense difficulty eating. Some individuals have no appetite and others find food gross. Most people with ARFID can eat less than 20 foods. Foods outside of their same list can cause strong responses like vomiting and gagging. ARFID can be socially debilitating and cause exstensive health problems. If you or your child is struggling with ARFID schedule a consult today.

How I Treat ARFID

At  Peaceful River Counseling I understand how all consuming ARFID can be. It's easy for your whole day to revolve around food. You frequently have to deal with hunger and migraines. Every mealtime comes with dread and you often avoid social events because of meals. I use a mix of trauma and exposure therapies to help you reduce the fear and anxiety food brings. I will meet you where you are at and not push you to do anything you aren't ready for.  I also have strong partnerships with nutritionists and doctors that are ARFID informed. We will work together to help you make peace with food.
